And this point is something that I find so poignantly illustrated by the moment in the movie Cast Away where Tom Hanks' character has built his raft and managed to successfully make it through the trecherous surf break and then he pauses for a moment, exhausted , with his legs hanging over the side of his raft and looks back longingly at his island, that safe haven. And then suddenly it starts raining obscuring his view, encouraging him onwards.
