I've got the day off today because my tiler is in finishing off my laundry so I've been looking at Google Maps to roughly chart my trip and just give me some points of reference. So for part 1 - I land in Fort Worth, Texas so I'm kinda going to do an anti-clockwise circle of the states and end up back at Fort Worth. Its strange looking at it all on the map and doing the Get Directions thing because while it looks far on the map apparently my first stop from Fort Worth will only take about 4 hours. Of course I plan to have a look around Fort Worth and Dallas while I'm in the area. I'm also coming back this way so I haven't decided whether I'll look first or on my way back. Two very different times of year so we'll see. First stop is Shreveport, Louisiana. Pretty much because of the Sookie Stackhouse books (and it's in the direction I'm heading). I don't expect it to be anything like the books but it will be pretty cool to say I've been there. Who knows what kind of Sookie touristy attractions they have!
The next major stop is Scottsboro, Alabama. Home of The Unclaimed Baggage Center which looks like an interesting place to poke around. Shreveport to Scottsboro should take about 9 hours reckons Google Maps but the route travels through Monroe (also a Sookie location) then crosses the border into Jackson, Missisippi and Tuscaloosa. I just wanna go to Tuscaloosa cuz it sounds so strange. After Scottsboro there's Chattanooga and Ooltewah, you know I've got to stop there! And I thought Australia had odd town names....
Anyway then I'll be on my way to Charlotte, North Carolina and then heading north, crossing the border in to Virginia. There's a town just off the highway called Galax. Weird name, might go and have a look. Then I cross the border again into West Virginia and into Ohio to Hillsboro. And that's as far as I've got so far. None of it is set in stone and it's really going to depend on my mood of the day and how much I feel like driving and where I feel like going if anywhere or if I plan to do a bit of exploring that day. My plan is to have no plans :)
