on the road to Cali

hahah I had to read my own blog to work out how far behind I was :( Sorry bout that. Been caught up with traveling but I'm about to bombard you with a stack of posts because I've traveled quite a bit since Battle Mountain.

Waking up in Battle Mountain was a little exciting as I was woken at 5am by my traveling buddy saying that one of the guys downstairs said that there was a huge snow storm coming and that we might be stuck there for a few days. Not only that but the phones, internet and cable TV were out. I was having visions of being stuck in a hotel for a couple of days reading and playing cards etc. Luckily for us we'd been food shopping the day before so we had supplies. I fell back asleep and woke up at 8am and the sun was shining.... bummer :) Looks like the storm wasn't to be after all.

We headed off toward California and San Francisco. We had intended to stop before San Fran but after passing the Cali border and encountering a MASSIVE rain and snow storm while crossing the mountains once we got to the other side of the mountain the snow and rain eased off (and I stopped having a panic attack) and we decided to push through to San Fran. The drive was pretty nice until we hit the Bay bridge to cross over into San Fran. First a $6 toll then crawling along the bridge at 20 mph for miles and miles until we finally hit the hotel, exhausted. I was surprised at how green California is compared to the rest of the country during my travels. Most of the country is pretty dry so I guess Cali gets a lot of rain (which it did for most of the San Fran stay).

This should have been my first clue about the weather ahead in the Cali mountains

Snow? really? hmmmmm

Welcome to sunny California.... NOT!

the rest stop at the top of the mountain

This doesn't really translate well but it's shitty weather

this was a neat back of the truck

Cali is GREEN

stuck in traffic....

on the other side of the Bay bridge... and just for something different, still stuck in traffic....
