So I went to the Gateway Arch and to see the Morpho madness today. The day was weird as it started off stinking humid hot and sunny at the Arch and then a massive storm came over while going to the Butterfly House and it's still pouring now. Lots of thunder and lightning going on. Considering the fact that there were tornado storm cells in the area in the last couple of days ago I kept an eye on the sky :)
I was going to go up the Arch but the line and wait was looooong so I think I'm gonna go back tomorrow when all the St Patrick's day festivities are over and there aren't so many people around. So tune in tomorrow for more pics at the top of the arch but for the moment you can make do with the below ones. (Click them if you want to enlarge them)

tune in tomorrow for photos from this location in the arch |
Then headed off to The Butterfly House for Morpho Madness and it was pretty cool. Well actually it was hot and humid in the butterfly hot house but it was so awesome to finally see these guys in the flesh. I've always wanted to see one with my own eyes and if the lil blue buggers would have stopped flying for a second or sat still with their wings open I'd have some great pics for you but nooooooooo. When they sit and eat they close their wings (showing their neat brown camoflage) so I could only really get some video of their blueness. Oh well :) There were also some really cool tarantulas and scorpions (and other assorted bugs) on display and watched a little movie about butterflies which was good because they had the airconditioning cranked up and I was BOILING after being in the hothouse trying to get Morpho photos.
So this is the first time I've worked out how to post video so I hope it works! and I'll spare you the zillion photos of butterflies on bananas because they all look the same so there's only a couple but I'm sure you get the gist. The video works but I dunno how to make it bigger.... hmmmm
