After Pea Island I drove further south through Rodanthe (where the movie Nights in Rodanthe was filmed - they actually moved the house back from the beach a little while ago as it was sinking into the waves) down to the 'boot' of Hatteras Island and through to Cape Hatteras where the Cape Hatteras Light Station is (and the ferry across to Ocracoke island). The lighthouse was actually moved from it's original location (by professionals!) to a more inland location as the sea level has been rising. There is a movie that documents the move of this lighthouse which weighs the equivalent of 2 space shuttles. They did the move in 23 days veerrrrrrrry slowly and carefully.

was VERY lucky to get this shot as one of the National Parks volunteer gave me a sneak peek inside as its usually closed at this time of year and is definitely closed for climbing. She was really nice and had a lot to say about the area and things to do and see. |

This is on the inside of the lighthouse |
Next stop was the free ferry to Ocracoke Island which took about 40 mins to get across. The light was just amazing and I got some really great shots (you'll probably have to click them to see them larger). A storm was coming over as we were getting closer to Ocracoke so it looked pretty amazing.

thats my little car on the ferry :) |

Little seagull stow away on the top of the boat mast. He stayed there for the whole trip |
and then onwards through the dunes to Ocracoke lighthouse
